OpenAI Announces SearchGPT, Its AI-Powered Search Engine
In a bold move, OpenAI has announced its entry into the search engine market with SearchGPT, aiming to challenge Google 's dominance.
Unlike conventional search engines, SearchGPT uses AI to provide contextual insights and direct attributions rather than just presenting a list of links.
Currently, a prototype available to 10,000 test users, SearchGPT offers features like "visual answers," where users can interact with AI-generated videos and images.
OpenAI is collaborating with news publishers to ensure ethical practices and proper attribution, potentially setting a new standard in AI-driven search technology. Like Google, OpenAI has established a partnership with Reddit, Inc. to integrate data from its forums into ChatGPT, as a result of the increasing demand for human input (especially amongst younger users, who commonly turn to social media and forums instead of search engines).
As covered in issue 004 of The Grip, Google's AI Overviews feature has been met with unfavorable reviews across the board. Is it because users do not actually want AI search? Or is it because users no longer want Google?
If SearchGPT eventually catches on, it could shake things up for SEO and Google.

What We’re Listening To
New music that has been inspiring us
BALTHVS - Harvest
Out of all the psychedelic guitar albums to drop this year (including releases from Khruangbin and Hermanos Gutiérrez), BALTHVS' debut album, Harvest, stands out the most. Unlike many of their contemporaries, BALTHVS manages to evade the "every song sounds the same" write-off, which is not easy to accomplish with this style of music. Each song is pronounced and delivers its own mood, while maintaining an overall fluid, trippy feel.
