ChatGPT Search Feature Rumors Heating Up
OpenAI is rumored to be launching a new ChatGPT feature that searches the web and provides answers with source citations - a Google alternative, if you will. This feature would let users ask questions and get responses that include details from various sources, like Wikipedia or blog posts, and might also include relevant media, again, much like Google.
Despite the blatant similarities, OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, indicated that this new feature would not be a copy of Google's structure, aiming for a more user-focused experience without heavy advertising. This move comes as Google faces criticism for issues like declining search quality and monopolistic practices.
At this point, it seems inevitable that ChatGPT will get into the search game. The real question is: how much can they offer a better experience vs. Google? And how many people will actually use it? Afterall, “Google” is literally synonymous with searching for something...for now at least.

LinkedIn Shares Insight Into Professional Use of Generative AI
A new report from LinkedIn and Microsoft indicates that generative AI use among global knowledge workers has nearly doubled in the last six months, with 75% now integrating AI tools into their workflow. The increasing adoption of AI suggests it's gaining traction across industries, underlining the need for professionals to understand and utilize these technologies to maintain their edge.
At a macro level, it’s not earth-shattering to learn that more people are acclimating themselves with AI (afterall, it has been the buzzword du jour for quite some time now). What would be more helpful is understanding what work these AI-tools are being used for and how they are impacting the results of said work. If someone uses ChatGPT once in a while to help improve the phrasing of an email, that’s not necessarily streamlining the splitting of the atom.
Despite AI's potential for increased efficiency, the report notes that 53% of users fear that relying on AI for important tasks might make them appear replaceable. The report also shows considerable growth in LinkedIn users adding AI-related skills to their profiles and a rise in job postings mentioning AI.
If Spielberg waited 22 more years to release “AI,” it might have been a hit. For what it’s worth, that movie made me cry. Twice. Moving on…

After Years of Caution, Pharma Advertisers are Embracing Influencer Marketing
Healthcare and pharmaceutical brands are increasingly investing in influencer marketing, a shift from their traditionally cautious approach. Previously, health and pharma advertisers, some of the biggest spenders in the media industry, avoided influencer marketing due to strict regulations. In lieu of third-party cookies (which are not HIPAA compliant) and in response to the ever-growing popularity of social media, advertisers see influencers as a key way to target and engage key audiences.
Although healthcare advertising is heavily regulated, agencies suggest that the growing demand for accurate health content on social media, and the need to counteract medical misinformation, is pushing healthcare brands to adopt a more proactive influencer strategy. Influencers can help brands own the conversation around healthcare, ensuring that the messaging is both authentic and in line with regulations.

What Apps Do With Your Health Data When You're Not Looking
The 2022 Supreme Court Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade, raised concerns about how personal health data is collected and used.
The ruling sparked fears about the potential for location and search data to track visits to reproductive health services, like abortion clinics. Despite promises from companies like Google to enhance privacy, reports revealed that sensitive information related to reproductive health was still being retained, highlighting the broader issue of data exploitation.
Similarly, period tracking and mental health apps have come under scrutiny for sharing sensitive user information with advertisers.
Popular apps like Premom and Flo Health Inc. were caught secretly sharing data with third parties, while telehealth platforms like BetterHelp and Cerebral faced fines for disclosing user information without proper consent. These breaches of trust demonstrate the need for stronger regulations to protect personal health data.
What’s being done and what’s being ignored? Plenty. On both fronts.
